CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
1. Introduction
| |
1.1 |
The World Crafts
Council Asia Pacific Regional Plan-of-Action adopted
in September 2001 in Kuala Lumpur highlighted the
need to foster and encourage young craftspersons to
focus on product design and improvement for the contemporary
market place. |

1.2 |
The Young Crafts Council 2008
is jointly organized by World Crafts Council Asia
Pacific Region and Malaysian Handicraft Development
Corporation, a government agency under the Ministry
Of Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia. |
2. Aims

2.1 |
The perpetuation of traditional craft
techniques in the young generation. |

2.2 |
The aim of the Young Craftsperson
Competition is to generate international awareness
and appreciation of the dynamism of the living craft
traditions of the Asia Pacific Region. |

2.3 |
To encourage and promote the
artistic skills of Craftsmakers through a conscious
manifestation of aesthetics in creativity and excellence
in craftsmanship. |
3. Competition
Theme
The theme of the Young
Craftsperson Competition is traditional textile work/s of
three (03) categories namely:-
i. Hand printed/ block
printed/ tie & dye techniques
ii. Weaving
iii. Embroidery
To further enhance the
product, the application of different types of indigenous
raw materials and dyes is encouraged and materials used
should be light and product readily transportable.
4. Eligible Work/s

4.1 |
The competition is
open to all craftspersons in the Asia Pacific Region
under the age of thirty five years old (35). The work/s
must be an original piece that has not been made public
before 2008. However, one that will be made public
during 2008 can be submitted for the competition. |

4.2 |
Work/s submitted should include
a description of the product, origin, source of inspiration,
material/s used, technique applied and surface decoration,
if any. |
5. Official Language
of the Competition
Official language for
the competition is English.
6. Jury
| |
6.1 |
A 5 member Panel
of Jury appointed by WCC will select the works submitted
for the competition. |

6.2 |
To facilitate the work of the
Panel Jury, a National Committee should be formed
in each country. The Committee will be entrusted to
undertake the pre-selection process of the entries
received from participating countries. |
7. Awards
The Jury may grant the following Awards. A sum of USD
4,500 dollars is allocated for the Awards.

The Competition schedule should include the following

Each member countries
may submit not more than 10 work/s. Entries could be courier
or hand carried to the General Assembly. Details will be
informed.
The selected works will
be exhibited at the venue where the competition is being
held.
10. Condition
of Entries

10.1 |
Any craftsperson
below the age of 35 is eligible to enter on an individual
or on a group basis. The person must be a resident
of a country in the Asia Pacific Region. |

10.2 |
Number of entries:
-
Each member country may only
send a maximum of ten (10) entries comprising
of all of the three categories for the competition.
-
All work/s must be submitted
to the National Committee of each member country.

10.3 |
Applicants must register first.
Mail the enclosed Registration Form to the Competition
Secretariat, at the address given, to reach not later
than 7 April 2008 with copy to the National Committee.

10.4 |
Entries could be courier or hand carried to the General
Assembly |
11. Keeping the
Work/s
On receiving the work/s,
the organizer will pay special attention to their maintenance
and transportation, but is not responsible for accidents
or damages caused by any natural disaster.
The winning entries shall be the property of WCC. WCC
has the right to exhibit work/s, publish them in the catalogue
and make use of them for the purpose of advertisement
for the work and other related events.
The applicant has the copyright and other rights related
to the industrial proprietorship. Therefore, the applicant
is responsible for preserving those rights. If necessary,
the applicant should make a registration of the design
at the time of the application.
13. Return of
Unsuccessful Work/s
Unsuccessful work/s shall
be returned before the departure of the submitter. In the
absence of the submitter, the work/s shall be returned to
the representatives of the National Entity present during
the event.

Insurance for work/s during the
period of transportation. |

Protection of copyrights of the
work/s and other rights relevant to industrial proprietorship. |
The applicant that does
not comply with rules and conditions of the Competition
as stipulated may be excluded from judgment.
