At the conclusion of the first International Ikat Weaving Forum 1999 organized by Society Atelier Sarawak in Kuching, Malaysia, world delegates proposed to set up the World Eco-Fiber and Textile (WEFT) Network.

The WEFT Network is a non-profit, non-government organization set up with the following objectives:

WEFT 2001

  • To network amongst the natural-material producers and the craftspeople through the establishment of an information database
  • To develop a marketing network eg. trade in raw materials, dye stuff, etc.

  • To promote the development of World Eco-Fiber and Textile art
  • To foster cultural exchange through exhibitions, conferences, international visits by the craftspeople for the purpose of study, lectures and workshops
