LAOS -- PDR

 

The 24th World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Regional Assembly was held in Laos from the 8th to the 14th of September 2000.

In this session, India had the honour of being elected the President of the region. Mrs. Vijaya Rajan was nominated by India to accept the Presidency for the period of 2000 - 2004.

During the meeting, the WCC Asia Pacific Regional Crafts Contest was held, where the Asia Pacific Crafts Awards were given for the first time. The objectives of this contest were quality, traditional/contemporary crafts, recognition of craftspeople, and use of natural fiber, with the theme of weaving such as basketry, mats, wall mats, purse, and the handloom process, and raw materials such as rush, reed, palm, flax, bamboo.
