UNESCO Crafts Prize - 2003

 

The UNESCO Crafts Prize 2003 for Asia Pacific Region awarded on the occasion of the Regional Craft Improvement Workshop - Exhibition of Home Accessories (Kuala Lumpur, 15 - 21 March 2003). The International Jury was composed of:

  UNESCO Crafts Prize 2003


The members of the Jury were assisted in their task by Mr. Indrasen Vencatachellum, Chief of the Section of Arts, Crafts and Design, representative of UNESCO.

The following 11 countries submitted candidates for the contest :

  • Malaysia,
  • Mongolia,
  • Myanmar,
  • Pakistan,
  • Thailand
First Prize of US 5000 dollars was awarded to Ali Naushad and Gayatri Shiveshwarkar - Sheesham-Leela Association (India) for their wooden mirror frame with brass wire inlay .

Second Prize of US 3000 dollars awarded to Mr. Ishak Bin Kassim of Malaysia for a line of food container items made from rattan.

Third prize of US 2000 dollars awarded to Anun Ronin of Malaysia for a set of table place-mats using the 'bemban' technique.

The Jury also decided to give honorary mention to encourage the following promising craftspersons:
