The Young Craftspersons Competition

 

The meeting of the International Jury for awarding the Young Craftsperson Competition 2003 for the Asia Pacific Region was held in conjunction with the Regional Craft Improvement Workshop organized by the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation from 15th to 21st March 2003. The following crafts specialists were designated to form the panel of the Jury:

Mr. Abdullah Hj Ab. Rahman (Malaysia)
 
Mr. Jose Ng (Philippines)

The Members of the Jury were assisted in their task by Mrs. Vijaya Rajan, President, World Crafts Council Asia Pacific.

Participants from Bangladesh, India and Malaysia participated in the contest. 12 craftspersons were finally selected.

First Prize of US 1900 dollars was awarded to Mr. Amit Dhawan of India for a Teakwood Clock with bone inlay.

Second Prize of US 1500 dollars was awarded to Mr. Raghuvansh of India for a picture frame crafted with Burnt Wood Technique.

Third Prize of US 900 dollars was awarded to Mr. Yogaraj of India for a Carved Ebony Wood Comb.

The jury also decided to give honorary mention to encourage the following promising craftspersons:
