About Asia Pacific Region

 

The World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Region forms the largest and most active part of the World Crafts Council. It is a non-governmental organization with a NGO status at UNESCO. The Asia Pacific Region consists of countries from Central Asia to the Pacific Islands.

The World Crafts Council Asia Pacific has a General Assembly composed of countries of the Region with different categories of membership.

The WCC Asia Pacific comprises the following:

The Asian Assembly constituted by five categories of members of the Asia Pacific Region

The Asian Pacific Board consists of the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Regional President and 6 Vice Presidents from the six sub-regions elected by the Asian Assembly

bullet  
Asian Pacific Secretariat is headed by the Regional President of World Crafts Council Asia Pacific

bullet  
The six Sub Regions that are defined by the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific

Only one organization in each country can be a National Entity Member of World Crafts Council Asia Pacific, and only this National Entity represents the country with full voting rights.

The National Entity can be an NGO, an association of craftspersons, a trade organization, an association of trade organizations, a promotional institute or a national committee. It is very essential that this organization (the National Entity) is a representative of the traditional crafts or applied arts in that country.

After their membership to World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Region is accepted, the new National Entity member will have to apply to World Crafts Council International for membership to WCCI. In this regard, they can contact Mrs. Maria Celina Olea Rodriguez at wis@wccwis.cl.

The Secretariat of World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Region is based in the city and country of the President of the Region. The present (2005 - 2008) President of WCC Asia Pacific is Ms. Zakiah Binti Ahmad from the Malaysian Handicrafts Development Corporation. The Secretariat is located to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.
